Tyler Bates
Tyler Bates has become one of the most prolific contemporary composers for film and television, building a career that bridges Hollywood blockbusters, cult TV series, and collaborations with major directors like Zack Snyder, James Gunn, and Rob Zombie. His breakout came with the epic, visceral score for 300 (2006), directed by Zack Snyder, followed by his gothic metal-infused soundtracks for Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and the Halloweenremake. Bates continued his partnership with Snyder on Watchmen, Sucker Punch, and Dawn of the Dead.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he scored Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) under James Gunn, and later worked with him again on The Suicide Squad (2021) and the hit TV spin-off Peacemaker. Other major credits include John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 (directed by Chad Stahelski), the Keanu Reeves action series now known for its stylistic violence and electronic-driven score. On television, Bates contributed music to Californication (starring David Duchovny), Salem, Kingdom, and The Punisher for Netflix/Marvel.
Beyond scoring, Bates has collaborated with rock and metal artists, working with Marilyn Manson, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, and even contributing to concert tours. His hybrid style of electronic pulses, heavy guitars, and cinematic orchestration places him alongside contemporaries like Brian Tyler, Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg), and Cliff Martinez.
