Trevor Rabin
Trevor Rabin is a South African musician, composer, and producer best known for his work as the guitarist and primary songwriter for the progressive rock band Yes during the 1980s and early 1990s. Born in 1954 in Johannesburg, Rabin was a prodigious talent, mastering guitar, keyboards, and orchestration from a young age. After early success with the South African rock band Rabbitt, he moved to the United States in the late 1970s to pursue a solo career. His big break came when he joined Yes in 1982, leading the band through a commercially successful reinvention. His songwriting and production played a crucial role in the creation of 90125 (1983), which included the smash hit Owner of a Lonely Heart—the band’s only U.S. number-one single. His influence helped Yes shift from their classic progressive rock roots to a more radio-friendly, arena rock sound.
Beyond Yes, Rabin has had a prolific career as a film composer, scoring numerous blockbuster movies. His work in Hollywood began in the mid-1990s, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after composers in the industry. His film scores include Armageddon (1998), Remember the Titans (2000), National Treasure (2004), and The Guardian(2006), among many others. Known for his ability to blend orchestral and rock elements, Rabin's compositions bring an epic and emotional depth to action-packed and dramatic films. His contributions to both rock and film music have cemented his reputation as a versatile and highly influential musician.
