The Youngbloods

The Youngbloods were an American rock band known for their folk-rock sound and their 1967 hit single “Get Together,” which became an anthem for the peace movement of the 1960s. Formed in 1965 in Greenwich Village, New York, the band was led by singer-songwriter Jesse Colin Young, whose soulful voice and thoughtful lyrics defined their music. The Youngbloods’ sound was characterized by its blend of folk, rock, and blues influences, with a focus on harmony and acoustic instrumentation. “Get Together” remains their most enduring legacy, with its message of unity and love resonating deeply during a time of social and political upheaval.

Although The Youngbloods never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of their contemporaries, they were highly respected within the counterculture movement for their artistic integrity and commitment to social change. The band continued to release albums through the early 1970s before disbanding, with Jesse Colin Young pursuing a successful solo career. The Youngbloods’ music continues to be celebrated for its sincerity and its reflection of the idealism of the 1960s.
