The Style Council
The Style Council was a British band formed in 1983 by Paul Weller, the former frontman of The Jam, and Mick Talbot, previously of The Merton Parkas and Dexys Midnight Runners. Departing from the punk and mod influences of The Jam, The Style Council embraced a more sophisticated and eclectic sound, blending elements of pop, soul, jazz, and funk. Their music often featured lush arrangements, smooth melodies, and socially conscious lyrics, reflecting Weller's evolving musical and political sensibilities. With hits like "My Ever Changing Moods" and "Shout to the Top!", The Style Council achieved commercial success in the 1980s, while also earning critical acclaim for their adventurous musical experimentation and commitment to social activism. Though the band disbanded in 1989, their legacy endures as a testament to Weller and Talbot's artistic vision and innovation.
