The Five Stairsteps

The Five Stairsteps were an American soul group from Chicago, often called "the first family of soul" before The Jackson 5. Active in the 1960s and early 1970s, they are best known for their 1970 hit "O-o-h Child," a soulful anthem of hope and perseverance that remains a staple of classic R&B.

Despite not reaching the sustained stardom of some contemporaries, The Five Stairsteps left a lasting impression on soul music. Their harmonies and smooth production helped shape the sound of later R&B acts, and "O-o-h Child" continues to resonate across generations.
