The Divinyls

The Divinyls were an Australian rock band formed in 1980 by vocalist Chrissy Amphlett and guitarist Mark McEntee. Known for their raw, edgy sound and Amphlett's powerful stage presence, the band achieved significant success in the 1980s and 90s with hits like "Boys in Town," "Pleasure and Pain," and their signature song "I Touch Myself." The latter, released in 1991, became a global hit, reaching the top of the charts in multiple countries and solidifying the band's place in rock history. The Divinyls' music is characterized by its blend of rock, new wave, and punk influences, with provocative lyrics and dynamic performances.

Despite their success, The Divinyls faced numerous challenges, including internal conflicts and changes in the music industry. Amphlett's distinctive voice and persona were central to the band's identity, and her untimely death in 2013 marked the end of an era for the group. Nevertheless, The Divinyls' legacy lives on through their influential body of work, which continues to inspire new generations of rock musicians. The band's contributions to Australian music and their impact on the global rock scene are widely recognized and celebrated.
