The Cadillacs
The Cadillacs were a dynamic doo-wop and R&B vocal group best known for their high-energy performances and the 1955 classic Speedoo. Formed in Harlem in the early 1950s, the group was one of the first doo-wop acts to incorporate choreography into their performances, paving the way for later acts like The Temptations. Led by lead singer Earl "Speedoo" Carroll, their combination of smooth harmonies and playful, upbeat songs made them one of the era’s most exciting groups.
Although they never achieved the long-term success of some of their contemporaries, The Cadillacs’ influence on the doo-wop genre was significant. Their music captured the spirit of 1950s rock and roll, and their showmanship set a precedent for future R&B groups. The group continued to perform in various forms for decades, with Carroll leading different lineups. Their contribution to early rock and R&B remains an important chapter in music history.
