The Bobbettes
The Bobbettes were one of the first successful all-female R&B groups, best known for their 1957 hit "Mr. Lee." The song, about a crush on a schoolteacher, became an instant success, reaching the top of the R&B charts and breaking into the pop market. Their energetic harmonies and youthful charm made them pioneers in the girl group movement, paving the way for future acts like The Shirelles and The Supremes.
Although "Mr. Lee" was their biggest hit, The Bobbettes continued recording and performing throughout the 1960s. They were one of the first girl groups to take control of their music, writing their own songs and maintaining a level of independence that was rare at the time. Their influence on female vocal groups remains significant, as they helped shape the evolution of R&B and pop music.
