Smith
Smith was an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1969, fronted by the powerful vocals of Gayle McCormick. Though their career was short-lived, Smith gained attention for their cover of "The Weight," originally by The Band, which they contributed to the Easy Rider soundtrack. Their version, marked by McCormick’s soulful, dynamic delivery, brought the group brief commercial success and established them as part of the late 1960s rock scene.
Despite releasing a couple of albums, including A Group Called Smith, the band disbanded by the early 1970s. Gayle McCormick went on to pursue a solo career, but Smith's contribution to Easy Rider has cemented their place in rock history. Their mix of blues, rock, and soul was emblematic of the era, and they remain a cult favorite among fans of 1960s music.
