Shirley and Lee

Shirley Goodman and Leonard Lee, known as Shirley and Lee, were a New Orleans-based R&B duo who gained fame in the 1950s. Their back-and-forth vocal style, often portraying a romantic narrative, made them stand out among other acts of the time. Their biggest hit, "Let the Good Times Roll," released in 1956, became an anthem of early rock and roll, showcasing their playful chemistry and infectious energy. Other hits like "Feel So Good" and "I’m Gone" also contributed to their success, cementing their place in rhythm and blues history.

Although Shirley and Lee parted ways in the early 1960s, their influence remained strong. Shirley Goodman later found success with the disco hit "Shame, Shame, Shame" as part of Shirley & Company in the 1970s. Meanwhile, their legacy as pioneers of R&B duets is still recognized today, as their music continues to be celebrated for its contribution to the evolution of rock and roll.
