Plumtree

Plumtree was an all-female indie rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, active in the 1990s. They are perhaps best known for their song “Scott Pilgrim,” which inspired the title character of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series. Their music features a catchy, melodic sound with influences from alternative rock and punk, blending energetic rhythms with personal, relatable lyrics. Plumtree’s music, including tracks like “Scott Pilgrim” and “Go!”, contributed to the Canadian indie scene’s development during the 90s.

Although the band disbanded in 2000, their legacy continues, particularly due to their influence on the Scott Pilgrim franchise. The use of their song title as the name of the graphic novel’s protagonist has introduced new audiences to their work, ensuring Plumtree’s place in indie rock history. The band’s music still resonates with fans who appreciate their contribution to the development of female-fronted indie rock.
