Mickey and Sylvia
Mickey & Sylvia were an American R&B duo composed of Mickey Baker and Sylvia Robinson. They are best known for their hit single "Love Is Strange," released in 1956, which became an enduring classic. Mickey Baker, a talented guitarist, and Sylvia Robinson, a singer and later a prominent music producer, combined their talents to create a distinctive sound characterized by catchy melodies, smooth harmonies, and Baker's innovative guitar work.
"Love Is Strange" featured playful, flirtatious dialogue between the two, and its memorable riff and rhythm have influenced many artists and been covered by numerous musicians over the years. Despite their success, the duo disbanded in the late 1950s, with both Baker and Robinson pursuing solo careers. Robinson went on to co-found Sugar Hill Records, playing a significant role in the early development of hip-hop music. Mickey & Sylvia's contributions to the R&B genre remain significant, as they helped pave the way for future duos and acts in popular music.
