Makaha Sons

The Makaha Sons are one of Hawaii’s most enduring and beloved musical groups, originally formed in 1976. The group started as the Makaha Sons of Niʻihau, and their music is rooted in traditional Hawaiian melodies and harmonies, combined with a contemporary style that appeals to a broad audience. The Makaha Sons, over the years, have recorded numerous albums and received numerous Na Hoku Hanohano awards (Hawaii’s version of the Grammys).

The original lineup included the famous musician Israel Kamakawiwoʻole (Iz), who later went on to achieve solo fame. Even after changes in membership, the group remains dedicated to preserving and promoting Hawaiian music and culture. Their rich vocal harmonies and dedication to Hawaiian traditions have cemented their place as legends in the Hawaiian music scene.
