M.I.A., born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam on July 18, 1975, in London, England, is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter known for her eclectic music style and politically charged lyrics. Her debut album "Arular" (2005) received critical acclaim for its innovative sound, combining elements of hip hop, dance, electronic, and world music. M.I.A.'s music often addresses themes of immigration, identity, and global politics, drawing from her own experiences as the daughter of Tamil Sri Lankan immigrants.
