Looking Glass

Looking Glass was an American rock band best known for their 1972 hit single "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)," a timeless classic that became one of the most beloved pop-rock songs of the 1970s. The band was formed in 1969 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, by Elliot Lurie (vocals/guitar), Larry Gonsky (keyboards), Pieter Sweval (bass), and Jeff Grob (drums). Their music blended elements of soft rock, pop, and a touch of soul, characterized by Lurie's smooth vocals and storytelling lyrics.

"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became a cultural touchstone, often praised for its narrative about a sailor's love for a barmaid and the sacrifices of a seafaring life. Looking Glass released two albums, Looking Glass (1972) and Subway Serenade (1973), but struggled to replicate the success of their signature hit. The band eventually disbanded in the mid-1970s, with Lurie pursuing a solo career. Despite their brief time in the spotlight, Looking Glass left an indelible mark on music history, with "Brandy" continuing to resonate across generations.
