Johnny Gill

Johnny Gill is an American singer, songwriter, and actor, best known as a member of the R&B group New Edition and for his successful solo career. Born on May 22, 1966, in Washington, D.C., Gill began singing at a young age, performing in his family's gospel group, Wings of Faith. His deep, rich voice set him apart from other young singers, and he released his first solo album at the age of 16. Gill's career took a significant turn when he joined New Edition in 1987, replacing Bobby Brown. His addition to the group brought a mature, soulful sound that contributed to the success of albums like Heart Break (1988).

Gill's solo work has also been highly acclaimed, particularly his 1990 self-titled album, which produced hits like "My, My, My" and "Rub You the Right Way." His music blends R&B, soul, and pop, showcasing his powerful vocals and emotive delivery. Throughout his career, Gill has been praised for his vocal abilities and has remained a prominent figure in R&B music. He continues to perform and record, both as a solo artist and with New Edition and its offshoot, Heads of State.
