George Baker Selection

The George Baker Selection was a Dutch pop group that achieved international success in the 1970s, best known for their hit single "Little Green Bag." Formed in 1967 by frontman George Baker (born Johannes Bouwens), the band initially struggled to gain traction but found their breakthrough with the release of "Little Green Bag" in 1969. The song's catchy bassline, smooth vocals, and unique blend of pop and rock elements propelled it to the top of the charts in several countries, including the United States, where it reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Following the success of "Little Green Bag," the George Baker Selection continued to release popular singles, including "Paloma Blanca," which became an international hit and topped charts in multiple countries. Their music was characterized by its melodic pop sound, often incorporating elements of folk and rock. Despite numerous lineup changes, the band maintained a consistent level of popularity throughout the 1970s. George Baker's songwriting and distinctive voice were central to the band's appeal, and even after the group disbanded in 1978, he continued to perform and record as a solo artist. The George Baker Selection's music remains a staple of 1970s pop, remembered for its timeless appeal and infectious melodies.
