Flying Lizards

The Flying Lizards were an experimental British band formed in the late 1970s, known for their avant-garde approach to pop music. Led by David Cunningham, the band's most famous single is their 1979 cover of "Money (That's What I Want)," which became a surprise hit due to its unconventional arrangement and deadpan vocal delivery by Deborah Evans-Stickland. The minimalist, deconstructed sound of their music, combined with a playful, almost robotic performance style, set them apart from mainstream pop and new wave bands of the time.

Although The Flying Lizards never achieved widespread commercial success beyond their initial hit, they left a lasting impression on the post-punk and experimental music scenes. Their albums, such as the self-titled "The Flying Lizards" and "Fourth Wall," explored a range of sonic textures and avant-garde concepts, influencing future generations of musicians interested in pushing the boundaries of pop music. The band's innovative approach and willingness to challenge musical norms have earned them a cult following and a respected place in the annals of experimental pop.
