Echobelly
Echobelly was a British alternative rock band that emerged in the 1990s as part of the Britpop movement. Fronted by Sonya Madan, the band brought a refreshing, female-led presence to the male-dominated scene. Their 1994 debut album Everyone’s Got One spawned hits like "Insomniac" and "I Can't Imagine the World Without Me," which showcased their melodic yet punchy sound. Their music was often compared to that of Blondie and The Smiths, blending jangly guitars with sharp, introspective lyrics.
As the Britpop wave receded, Echobelly struggled with record label issues and lineup changes, but they continued to produce music into the 2000s. Madan and guitarist Glenn Johansson remained the core members, keeping the band's legacy alive. Their later work retained the essence of their earlier sound, proving their ability to evolve without losing their identity. While they never reached the commercial heights of Oasis or Blur, Echobelly remains a beloved name among Britpop enthusiasts.
