Derek & The Dominos

Derek & The Dominos was a short-lived but highly influential blues-rock band formed by Eric Clapton in 1970. Their only studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, became one of rock’s most celebrated records, driven by the emotionally charged hit Layla. The band, which included keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle, and drummer Jim Gordon, created a deeply personal and blues-infused sound that captured Clapton’s struggles and passion.

Despite their brief existence, Derek & The Dominos left an enduring impact on rock music. The album’s mix of blues standards and original compositions showcased Clapton’s best guitar work, including his collaborations with Duane Allman, whose slide guitar playing elevated the recordings. The band disbanded shortly after their debut, but their music remains an essential part of classic rock history.
