Cissy Houston

Cissy Houston is an American soul and gospel singer, best known as the mother of Whitney Houston and for her own successful career as a solo artist and backup vocalist. Born on September 30, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey, Houston began her singing career in the 1950s as a member of the gospel group The Drinkard Singers, which also included several of her family members. She later became a founding member of the vocal group The Sweet Inspirations, which provided backing vocals for many famous artists, including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Van Morrison.

In the 1970s, Houston launched her solo career, recording several albums that showcased her powerful voice and deep connection to gospel and soul music. She won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album in 1996, further cementing her legacy in the music industry.
