Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath is widely credited as the pioneers of heavy metal, defining the genre with their dark, heavy sound and ominous lyrics. Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, the band created a new kind of rock music, filled with doom-laden riffs and themes of darkness and mysticism. Their groundbreaking albums, such as Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971), featured legendary songs like Iron Manand War Pigs, which became anthems of the metal movement.

Over the years, Black Sabbath went through multiple lineup changes, with vocalists like Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan stepping in at different times. Despite the shifts, the band maintained their legendary status. Their farewell tour in 2017 marked the end of an era, but their influence on metal music remains unmatched. Sabbath’s legacy as the godfathers of heavy metal ensures their place in rock history.
