Big Machine Records
Big Machine Records is a Nashville-based independent record label specializing in country and pop music. It was founded in 2005 by Scott Borchetta, a former DreamWorks Records executive. The label gained widespread recognition and success, particularly for its association with Taylor Swift, who signed with Big Machine as a teenager and released her first six studio albums under the label. Taylor Swift's early success played a significant role in establishing Big Machine as a major force in the music industry.
Big Machine Records operates under the Big Machine Label Group (BMLG), which also includes other labels like Valory Music Co. and BMLG Records. The label's roster has featured a variety of prominent artists in country music and beyond, including Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Florida Georgia Line, and Thomas Rhett, among others.
In 2019, Big Machine Records made headlines when it was acquired by Ithaca Holdings, a company owned by talent manager Scooter Braun. This acquisition included the master recordings of Taylor Swift's first six albums, which led to a highly publicized and contentious dispute between Swift and Braun. As a result, Swift has since re-recorded and released new versions of some of her earlier albums to regain control of her music.
Big Machine Records continues to be a significant player in the music industry, focusing on nurturing both established and emerging artists across various genres.
